I
arrived in Cuba (on a tour with International Expeditions) not to sample the coffee, some with elaborate foam
art displaying the visage of Che Guevara; watch the daily street
parade of 1950s automobiles; dance to son, danzon, rumba or other
Cuban music; or sip a mojito in a Havana bar that Hemingway
frequented. No, I came to check out the bird scene because, beyond this island nation's signature sights and activities is a verdant landscape brimming with bird species.
I recently wrote about my birding experiences in Cuba for National Geographic Traveler - Intelligent Travel.

As more and more people are going to Cuba, I am enjoying learning so much more about this beautiful country.
So beautiful.
Hi Brette, I hope to return at some point to visit the eastern section of the country as well as spend more time in Havana.
Hi Alisa, Thanks much. Glad you liked my images of this picturesque land.
Our daughter sent me some coffee from Germany, but it was Cuban coffee (oops). It was delicious. I love reading about the travels of Americans to this newly open frontier (for many of us).
Lovely photos. I'll bet visiting Cuba was very exciting and full of beauty!
Hi Living Large, The coffee was amazing. I guess I expected to sample flavorful coffee. It was the lush landscapes that I found surprising.
Hi Sheryl, There's so much to explore in Cuba. It definitely requires another trip.
Looks so beautiful and unspoiled. I hope to get there one day! Thanks for sharing~
Irene
Hi Irene, I was quite surprised by the large protected landscapes.
What lovely photos! I don't think of Cuba and Birdwatching together, but you've enlightened me.
Hi Jane, Glad you liked 'em. I never would've linked birding and Cuba either. Who knew?
