Green, Eco-Conscious Rio

Visitors have so many misconceptions about Rio de Janeiro: that it's so unsafe you shouldn't leave your hotel to roam the streets and certainly you shouldn't go bicycling, jogging or walking on any of the trails; and that it's a car-choked city crammed with slums. The list goes on. But this isn't what I found. In fact, surprisingly, Rio is a verdant city coated with green spaces and it's also a bike-friendly city. Who knew?

    Good to know! Ever since I saw the movie 'Rio' (yeah, I know it's an animated kids' movie and probably not indicative of the city, but there you go), I've wanted to go there. It's so colorful! Of course, they were smack in the middle of Carnival in the movie, so that probably helped.

    Enjoyed the article. I visited Rio at the end of a cruise. To be honest, I dreaded touring there because of Rio's bad reputation. It turned out to be a delightful city that I would enjoy visiting again.

    I don't think I will ever get to Rio, but who knows? This post increased my desire to visit. And, I have always appreciated the Brazilian people. I recently learned that Brazil is a country with a zero immigration policy. Did you know?

    Hi Alexandra, I found the Brazilians very warm and welcoming when I was in Rio. But I had no idea about the zero immigration policy. Thanks for the heads up on that.
