Visitors have so many misconceptions about
Rio de Janeiro: that it's so unsafe you shouldn't leave your hotel to roam the streets and certainly you shouldn't go bicycling, jogging or walking on any of the trails; and that it's a car-choked city crammed with slums. The list goes on. But this isn't what I found. In fact, surprisingly, Rio is a verdant city coated with green spaces and it's also a bike-friendly city. Who knew?

This is an piece I just did for
National Geographic Traveler's Intelligent Travel blog on the Rio you never knew.
Nice advice. Thank you.

Hi Aljellejay-r Glad you enjoyed my tips.
ReplyDeleteGood to know! Ever since I saw the movie 'Rio' (yeah, I know it's an animated kids' movie and probably not indicative of the city, but there you go), I've wanted to go there. It's so colorful! Of course, they were smack in the middle of Carnival in the movie, so that probably helped.
ReplyDeleteHi Jane, I still have to see that movie. It looks very cute.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely article on NatGeo. I have never been, either, but that photo on our blog looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteHi merr, Glad you enjoyed the article and the photos. Hopefully, my tips will be useful should you make it to Rio.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about breezy runs, but I'm sure I could manage a breezy walk under those trees - looks gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHi casey, everyone, whether those working up a sweat or those just strolling, enjoy these paths, for sure.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the article. I visited Rio at the end of a cruise. To be honest, I dreaded touring there because of Rio's bad reputation. It turned out to be a delightful city that I would enjoy visiting again.
ReplyDeleteHi Donna, I'm so glad you enjoyed Rio. So many people fall for all the bad publicity and miss the city's hidden and not so hidden treasures.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I will ever get to Rio, but who knows? This post increased my desire to visit. And, I have always appreciated the Brazilian people. I recently learned that Brazil is a country with a zero immigration policy. Did you know?
ReplyDeleteHi Alexandra, I found the Brazilians very warm and welcoming when I was in Rio. But I had no idea about the zero immigration policy. Thanks for the heads up on that.
ReplyDeleteGreat post and I never knew it was a bike friendly city, thats great! Also love the picture at the top of the post.
